Professional Pathway to Certification

This diagram sets out the current education and qualification paths for practicing members. For more details, please refer to the Membership & Certification Bylaws.

 

All membership and qualification matters come under the jurisdiction of the Certification Committee. This committee is independent of the Board and Executive. If you believe you should not have to meet one or more of the requirements below, you should make a detailed case and send it, with supporting documentation, to this committee via the IFA Office: PO Box 5513, Wellington. 1. A RFA or QFE adviser joins as an Associate Member and may remain as an Associate Member or become an AFA and progress to Practitioner Member.

2. An AFA joins as a Practitioner Member and may remain as a Practitioner Member

OR

3. To progress to become a CFPCM or CLUCM Designated Practitioner:

A.
Complete 3 years’ experience as a financial adviser including 12 months supervision as an IFA member.

B. Hold any approved Degree or Graduate Diploma in Personal Financial Planning.

C. Pass any Case Study / exam set by the Institute

 

 

CFPCM and are registered certification marks and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM is a common law certification mark owned outside the U.S. by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. Institute of Financial Advisers is the marks licensing authority for the CFP Marks in New Zealand, through agreement with FPSB.
